Spring Natural Cleaning

These cleaning solutions are safer for kids, pets, and the environment, and they’ll leave your home sparkling and beautiful. Save yourself the time and expense of trying every “streak-free” window cleaner on the market. Instead, mix one part vinegar to two parts water in a spray bottle. Wipe off using black-and-white newspaper or a lint-free towel.      Treat tough stains with a baking soda–and–water paste. Keep your surfaces streak-free by polishing with olive oil. Baking soda is a great way to clean and deodorize carpets. Sprinkle some down before vacuuming. You can also try cornstarch, which soaks up oils on the carpet. Cleaning grout  isn’t a cakewalk, but using baking soda is a trusted way to keep grout stain-free. Make a paste of baking soda and water, and spread it on the area. Spray vinegar on the paste to create a foaming action, then scrub and rinse. Banish hard water  stains from the bathtub by placing a vinegar-soaked paper towel over the area. Let it stand for up to two hours, then scrub with a baking soda paste and …

The Urban Farm

Renovating a house is one of the skills of the Dutch. The restoration of a house for them is a very important value and they often choose to create continuity between the environments, making it very harmonious inside and outside the house. The restructuring of this farm in the Netherlands, whose colors and elements are reminiscent of the surrounding countryside, is a good example of the Dutch work. I thought particularly lovely the pastel green color that characterizes the kitchen walls where the family spends most of the time and where you can enjoy dinners with friends !! Photo: James Stokes

How to Choose the Right Headboard

I have made a list of the the most important things to consider before buying a headboard. If you read or  watch Tv in bed then you’ll be better off with a padded or upholstered  headboard. Since you’ll be  leaning against it, a  dark color or print will disguise any marks. A metal or wooden headboard will create a stylish statement but won’t offer the comfort of upholstered headboards .                                                What are the design choices?   Upholstered  headboards are ideal for comfort and can create a striking statement if covered in bold, patterned fabric. Buttoned headboards are back in fashion and now come in sleeker, streamlined shapes giving them a modern edge. Look out for buttoned headboards upholstered in suede for the ultimate in luxury and comfort.  Leather headboards are good for bringing a sleek, modern look to contemporary bedrooms, but remember, the leather can be cold so you may need a few extra pillows.  Wooden headboards …

Calcarea – Ceramic Vessels

This creative project, Calcarea , by Italian designer  Francesca Gatello  and  Rosso Ramina, takes the trend one step further, and uses the waste material from the mining and cutting of marble  to create a range of simple homeware.   The name Calcarea is linked to calcium, Ca, marble’s most important chemical element. The objects in the range have two different surfaces, and thus are typically two-toned: a transparent finished one and a rough one, which shows the core mixed material, its and its visual and tactile qualities.   The beautiful product shots of the Calcarea collection you see here were shot in a marble quarry. ‘In this context the objects are inserted into their birthplace, where the stone is extracted.’ “A special bond between matter, image and illusion has been created: we built some brand new domestic locations using the vertical surface of one quarry-bearing pillar. It becomes the wall of two ideal settings: a living room and a bathroom. The pillar face gives an irregular plane which, offers a very fascinating texture.”   Marble production generates large amounts of waste. Almost 70 percent of the mineral is wasted …
